It’s not quite Summer yet, but at least the cinema is picking up with some noteworthy releases.

Non-Stop – February 28

Liam Neeson hasn’t headlined a movie since 2012’s Taken 2. Now he’s back with Non-Stop about an air marshal (played by Neeson) who receives anonymous text messages while on a flight. The texts state a passenger will die every 20 minutes until $150 million is transferred to a bank account. The film also stars Julianne Moore.

300: Rise of an Empire – March 7

Seven years after 300 became a huge success, we get a prequel/sequel hybrid in the form of 300: Rise of an Empire. The film will take the battle to the seas of Ancient Greece where a general is attempting to unite the whole nation. The film co-stars Eva Green (Casino Royale) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) who reprises her role from the first film.

Need for Speed – March 14

Based on the biggest racing video game series of all time, Need for Speed stars Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul who after being released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit, plans to race across the country to avenge his friend’s death. The film co-stars Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger), Kid Cudi, and Michael Keaton.

Muppets Most Wanted – March 21

After The Muppets returned in 2011, they return…again with Muppets Most Wanted which has Kermit the Frog’s doppelganger, a criminal named Constantine, break out of prison and replace himself with Kermit the Frog while The Muppets are touring in Europe. The musical stars Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Tina Fey, and, of course, The Muppets.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – April 4

The Star Spangled Man is back on the big screen two years after The Avengers came to theaters. Captain America: The Winter Soldier has Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers attempting to adapt to society while solving a mystery with Black Widow. When their mission is discovered, Cap and Black have to recruit the Falcon to battle the Winter Soldier. The film stars Robert Redford with Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson reprising their roles from the previous films in the franchise.

Other films coming out soon include Son of God about that Jesus fellow, Miyazaki’s (director of Spirited Away) swan song The Wind Rises, Jason Bateman’s directorial debut Bad Words, and Russell Crowe starring Noah based on the story of Noah’s Ark.
