Oh thank god, the Summer movie season is here. May and the first half of June have plenty to talk about, actually making it difficult to only pick five movies for this feature. So forget about June, let’s just talk about what May has to offer.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – May 2

Sony is currently planning three sequels to 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man (and that’s not including the spin-off films), the first of which comes out this May. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has Peter Parker investigating what happened to his father while new villains, Electro and the Rhino, give Spider-Man a run for his money. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Paul Giamatti.

Godzilla – May 16

It’s been 16 years since the last Godzilla movie was released here in America. The new film, simply titled Godzilla, is a rebirth to the iconic franchise where the world’s most famous monster is up against evil creatures created by man that threaten our existence. The film stars Bryan Cranston (no, he’s not Godzilla).

X-Men: Days of Future Past – May 23

Eight years since the original X-Men starred in X-Men: The Last Stand and three since the new X-Men starred in X-Men: First Class, the two groups join together in X-Men: Days of Future Past where they must use time travel to change the past for the sake of the future. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart.

Maleficent – May 30

Unless you count Kung Fu Panda 2, Angelina Jolie hasn’t starred in a movie since 2010’s The Tourist. She’s back on the big screen with Maleficent, a live-action retelling of 1959’s Sleeping Beauty from the villain’s perspective. The film is from first-time director Robert Stromberg, the Academy Award-winning production designer of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.

A Million Ways to Die in the West – May 30

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s next film, A Million Ways to Die in the West, is set in Arizona 1882 where a sheep farmer named Albert (not Bibeau, unfortunately) loses his girlfriend after he withdraws from a duel. He meets another woman but finds out the woman’s spouse is an infamous criminal. The film stars Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman and Liam Neeson.

Some films coming out in June include Tom Cruise action flick Edge of Tomorrow, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and the Clint Eastwood directed Jersey Boys. Spend your movie money wisely.
