As the new year begins, it feels as if there’s a new award show every other weekend. Many stars use these A-lister events to show off their elegant style by arriving in full length gowns, while others take a bit of a risk by switching it up with pants or a short skirt. Lorde and Emma Stone showed how not only men can rock pants on the Golden Globe red carpet. Emma styled a sleeveless romper with a long tail, while Lorde wore loose pants, a crop top, and a blazer to top off the look. Anna Kendrick, Gwen Stefani, and Sia also brought the fashion style onto the Grammys red carpet. Similar to Emma, Gwen wore a black, strapless romper, whereas Anna wore a pantsuit, matching with Lorde. Sia styled her look a different way with a black cape and a humongous white wig to shield her face from the paparazzi and starlight. Accompanying her is 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler who is featured in Sia’s Chandelier and Elastic Heart music video’s.
Another major trend on the Grammy red carpet was the color black. It looked as though every other woman walking down the red carpet was styling a beautiful, black, floor length dress. Some of these women included Miley Cyrus, Jessie J, and Béyonce, who is a 17-time Grammy winner. Although some may view black gowns as boring and repetitive, each dress had a unique quality. Whether it was the sheer and lace material, or the sleek cutouts showing a little bit of skin.
Only a few woman ventured out of the all black trend, with vibrant colored dresses. Rihanna channeled her inner Barbie doll when she dressed herself in what looks like a giant pink tutu. She may not have been the best dressed on the carpet, but we have to give it to her for taking a fashion risk, even if it made her look like a life-sized toy. Taylor Swift was looking fabulous, as always, showing off her long legs in an aquamarine dress with fuchsia heels.
Of course, we have to acknowledge the men who caused jaws to drop on the red carpet. Nick Jonas was looking handsome as ever in a grey, checkered suit paired with a pair of white sneakers. Pharrell, on the other hand, turned some heads when he showed some leg in a white suit jacket paired with shorts. Apparently he didn’t get the news that it is still winter, even all the way in California. Overall, 2015 has already had some amazing award shows and the fashion has been even greater. I’m looking forward to more fashion statements on red carpets in the near future.
