ASK AGATHA – APRIL
March 29, 2023
Q: Dear Agatha,
What are the best studying methods for every class so I can ensure that I get the highest grades and achieve Valedictorian?
Sincerely,
An Academic Force of Nature
A: For me, the best way to study is by writing everything down and speaking it aloud. Doing this enables me to memorize facts and concepts much better. After that, rewrite everything down that you remember on a separate sheet. Keep repeating that process until you can rewrite everything from the original sheet from memory.
Q: Dear Agatha,
My friend always guilt trips me by saying she is feeling left out from our other friends, but then when we go to our sports practice, she is always yelling at me and being rude. I am her only friend. She really annoys me, but I feel trapped. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Confused Student
A: The only way around that is to have a real conversation with her. She will likely deny the allegations you present. At that point, you should call her out every single time she does something that you think is wrong. If she doesn’t change, you have to drop her.
Q: Dear Agatha,
What can teachers do to motivate students to read?
Sincerely,
A Troubled Teacher
A: The only way to fight students not reading is to crack down on them. After a chapter is due, assign a pop quiz that pertains to the chapter with a specific question. Ask for a detailed response and to identify the characters and main plot. If the student is off, put an F in Powerschool.
