Girls Tennis Beats New Milford

Bethel High School’s varsity girls tennis team beat New Milford 5-2 on April 11. Coach Erin Tegmier anticipated a close match, but had faith in the team’s strong lineup.

Playing singles was Captain, Katie Struth (’12), followed by Daniella Wong (’13), Sara Islam (’14), and Madhu Das (’12). Wong, Islam, and Das won their respective matches, while Struth had a difficult time in the number one spot because of tough competition. Tegmier states, “The girl (Struth) played is actually winning throughout the season so far.”

The doubles teams played just as well. Jessica Bergen (’15) and Carlie Goldstein (’13) played their first match as a doubles team. Tegmier states, “They played fantastically together!”

Tegmier has her eye on a different doubles partnership, Kiana Yup (’15) and Carina Leggio (’14), who “are unstoppable so for this season and won. These two have one of the best doubles partnerships I have seen in a long time.”

Leggio attributes their success to the friendship they share. She states, “We get along really well so it helps us play better as a team.”

The team’s final win came from partnership between Captain Katelynn Geist (’12) and Rachel Belcher (’15) in the number three double’s spot.

Overall, the team is happy with their results. Geist recalls, “It was a great match,” to which no one can disagree!
