Field Hockey Starts Season With a Win

This week marks the start of the BHS fall sports teams competitions!

The BHS Varsity Girls Field Hockey team opened their season on the road Wednesday in Monroe, CT to face Masuk High School. The girls beat the brutal heat and their opponents, starting their season with a strong 1-0 win.

After a scoreless first half, Kendra Curry ’14 came through for the Wildcats in the second half with the game’s only goal. Curry was assisted by fellow senior Lindsay Jenkinson ’14, who dribbled from the right side of the circle to the center and passed the ball to Kendra, who was then able to score the goal.

The team had a total of 15 corners and Amanda Nunes ’16 had three saves as the goalie. When asked about the win, Jessica Bergen ’15 replied “It was a tough first game against Masuk considering the brutal heat, but we came onto the field as a team. We had control for the majority of the game but really pulled through in the second half with a goal.”

Bergen added that “[the team] is really looking forward to the rest of the season after this win!”

Varsity Field Hockey’s next game is home against Newtown on Friday, 9/13.

Go Wildcats!
