Boys Cross Country (2-4) had its second race of the season on Tuesday in Newtown. The team beat opponents Masuk by a close 27-30 and Notre Dame-Fairfield 23-36, but lost to Newtown 44-19. Kevin Michalka ’15, lead runner for Bethel, ran an impressive 17:58 and finished 2nd overall, bouncing back from being unable to finish in the team’s meet from the previous week.
Girls Cross Country (3-3) ran in Newtown on Tuesday for the teams second meet of the season. The girls lost to Newtown 32-15 but beat the two other schools Masuk and Notre Dame-Fairfield 16-48 and 15-49, respectively. The lead runner for Bethel was Savannah Pipkin ’15 running a 21:34 and finishing 3rd overall. Julia Fragomeli ’16 also finished in the top five, placing 4th overall and running a 21:46.
Field Hockey (1-1-1-1) had a game on Tuesday away against Joel Barlow. The lady Wildcats struck first, with Reece Freebairn ‘14 scoring Bethel’s lone goal, in the first half. Barlow scored twice in the second half to win the game, 2-1. Goalie Amanda Nunes ‘16 had nine saves.
Field Hockey’s next game was away against Weston on Thursday. Reece Freebairn ‘14 scored another goal for Bethel along with Morgan Matthews ‘16 in the 3-2 overtime loss. Barlow scored with 5:38 remaining in overtime to break the 2-2 tie and defeat the Wildcats.
Football (0-2) lost a close game to Newtown on Friday. After being down 22-0 on the road, the Wildcats fought back, bringing the score to 22-14. Matt SanGiacmo ‘14 forced a fumble late in the game preventing a Newtown score and giving the Wildcats one last chance to even the score. Newtown’s defense held strong however, keeping the Wildcats winless despite two strong games.
Girls Soccer (1-2-1) started off their busy week Monday at home, against Weston. Alex Hernandez ‘14, Alexandra DeLuca ‘16, and Ryann Belcher ‘17 each scored a goal for the lady Wildcats in the 3-1 win. DeLuca also had an assist along with teammates Lauren Bradshaw ‘15 and Lucy Daniels ‘14 while goalie Sophia Corbo ‘16 had 5 saves in the team’s first win of the season.
The girls played again Thursday in Redding against Joel Barlow. The girls lost 6-1.
The girls finished their busy week on Friday away against Masuk. The lady Wildcats tied Masuk 2-2. Annie Bedore ‘17 scored both of Bethel’s goals. Sophia Corbo ‘16 had another 5 saves for the girls.
Boys Soccer (1-1-1) played the first game of their week in Weston on Monday. The game ended with in a 0-0 tie.
The boys faced off against Joel Barlow at home on Thursday. The Wildcats were handed their first lost of the season in the 2-1 loss. Bethel’s lone goal was scored by Kyla Almeida. Goalie Matt Liquori ‘14 had 7 saves.
