Boys Soccer Powers Past Oxford
October 15, 2013
Bethel High’s Boys Soccer team took on Oxford home at Rourke Field Tuesday, October 8th, looking for a spark to ignite the Wildcat’s offense. The boys triumphed 9-1 over the visiting Oxford squad. This was a big turnaround for Bethel’s offense, as the team had only scored six goals before this game. Kyle Almeida ‘16, the team’s leader in goals, scored three goals for Bethel. Henry Wyard ‘14 also added two scores for the Wildcats. Captain Leo Eaton ‘14 contributed both a score and an assist in the game. Mike McCourt ‘15, Dan Chapman ‘15, and goalkeeper Matt Liquori ‘14 each had one goal. McCourt was also responsible for an assist, along with Ivan Candido ‘14. Bethel had two goalkeepers in the match; Matt Liquori ‘14 had four saves while Bryan Bornn ‘16 had three saves.
One of the team’s Captain’s Leo Eaton ‘14 said that the game is “really helpful for the rest of the season” because “the game was the first game in which [the team’s] offensive capabilities were shown.”
Eaton also added that the team “has fought hard through the toughest part of the season. Hopefully we can finish our season with some more strong victories that will carry us into the SWC and State Tournaments.”
Go Wildcats!
