Last month, in the rematch of the year, the Bethel boys soccer team rose to the occasion and brought home the SWC title for the first time in over ten years. This time last year, the boys soccer team was still distraught after their 1-0 loss to Joel Barlow in the SWC Finals. However, this loss pushed them to match their opponents’ score from last year, then tack on another goal. With the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Kyle Almeida ‘16, and a strong defense lead by captain Nick Falstoe ‘16, Bethel dominated most of the game, allowing goalkeeper Bryan Bornn ‘16 to make only one save to earn a shutout. The game’s first goal was scored by Almeida early in the first half, and Frank Musser ‘16 scored the second one at the beginning of the second half. Assists went to both Almeida and Nick Osebio ‘16.
Bethel High School Super Fans of all ages showed up to Newtown High School that night to show their support for the boys soccer team and even to join in the celebration when the team stormed the stands after the final buzzer. Despite the team’s devastating loss in States, Bethel High School is proud to add another SWC Champion banner to their walls and wishes the team luck in next year’s season!
