The BBD IceCats, a CO-OP hockey team comprised of players from Bethel, Brookfield and Danbury made an incredible run in this year’s CT State Tournament. The Defending 2021 SWC team welcomed back Bethel upperclassmen, Kevin Dykes ‘23, Jordan Perrotti ‘23 and Thomas Fernandes ‘23 as they began the 2021-22 season. They added freshman TJ Miller ‘25 who joined the varsity this season. After a 12-8 regular season record, the IceCats headed into the SWC playoffs as the 4 seed facing off against 1 seeded New Milford in the first round. The IceCats won 4-1 with a goal by Jordan Perrotti ‘23 assisted by Kevin Dykes ‘23. The Icecats advanced to the SWC championship game and played an incredible game but unfortunately fell just short to Joel Barlow/Weston/Abbott Tech CO-OP in the SWC final with a 3-1 loss. Then it was onto the States.
The Icecats received a 4 seed out of 16 teams for the State Championship. In their first round game, which was played in Brewster, they defeated the Newtown-New Fairfield CO-OP by a score of 5-2. TJ Miller ‘25 had a hatrick, Kevin Dykes ‘23 netted a goal and Jordan Perrotti ‘23 assisted. Then it was onto the second round in Bridgeport where the Icecats defeated New Milford by a score of 2-1 with a goal scored by Jordan Perrotti ‘23. That secured the Icecats a spot in the State Semifinals where they faced off against Conard High school of West Hartford.
The game was played at the Northford Ice Pavilion. Surrounded by many Bethel High School students who made the trip to Northford to support the BBD Icecats. Kate Pallas ‘23 says “I had so much fun going to the BBD games this season. They were always very exciting to watch. Hope to see even more students attend games next year!!”After a scoreless first period, Conard scored. However, quickly after that goal Kenneth Granakcer ‘22 of Brookfield High School scored and tied the game 1-1. Louis Alfidi ‘22 of Danbury was almost unstoppable in the goal with 42 saves. An absolutely unbelievable effort by the Icecats. With a minute 44 seconds remaining Conard scored the final goal of the game on a redirection to win the game 2-1, ending the Icecats incredible run. Congratulations to all of the Bethel players on BBD for an incredible season. We look forward to their return to the ice this fall.
