Getting Ready for Bikini Season
April 2, 2012
It’s getting closer to the time of the year when sweaters and scarves are replaced with swimsuits and shorts. Summer is just around the corner, and it’s time to start getting ready for bikini season.
Some girls choose to participate in a spring sport in order to tone and get in shape for the summer time. Stephanie Hirst (‘12), a member of the girls varsity lacrosse team, says, “It’s all about the repetitions; the more reps, the better results.”
However, for those who choose not to do a spring sport, there are many other alternatives. Ms. Sandra Jaques, a physical education teacher at Bethel High, encourages toning in a healthy way. She suggests, “If you don’t do a sport, you can do other activities like Zumba, yoga. Get any home DVDs, like p90x or insanity. You could also go to the gym, and make sure you do thirty minutes of cardio a day.”
Another tip to getting in shape for summer time is to start eating healthy. “If you’re really looking to lose weight, you should join Weight Watchers. It’s basically 90% eating healthy and 10% exercise,” says Ms. Jaques.
The most important thing to remember is that girls shouldn’t be so self-conscious — everyone has a different body type. Figure out what your healthy weight is for your body type, and make it your mission to get to it. After all, there are only eighty-three days left until the first day of summer!
