2 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon cream of tartar
2 tablespoons sugar
½ cup butter
2/3 cup milk
Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, salt, baking powder, cream of tartar, and sugar until completely mixed.
Cut the butter into the flour with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles course meal.
Add the milk all at once an stir with a fork just until the dough forms a ball around the fork.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 14 times or until soft and smooth without being sticky.
Roll to ¾ inch thick. Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter, using all the dough.
Place the rounds on one cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
Biscuits should be puffy and lightly browned when removed from the oven.
