Theater Previews: “Mary Poppins Jr.”
Next month, Bethel Middle School is putting on its fall musical, “Mary Poppins Jr” based on the Disney classic. “Mary Poppins Jr.” takes place in England during the 1920’s and is centered around Jane (Lania Caffery 25’) and Michael Banks (Sam Salvestrini 26’), the children of the very wealthy George and Winifred Banks (William Esposito 25’ and Georgia O’Connor 24’).
When Jane and Micheal are faced with finding a new nanny, they are thrilled when they meet the magical and “practically perfect” Mary Poppins (Avery Enguland 24’), who, with her old friend Bert (Jayden Garofolo-Colon 24’) teach everyone, from the colorful ensembles to the frightening Ms. Andrew (Isabel Danielsen 24’) that “anything can happen if you let it.”
These young actors have been working hard and are excited for their friends and family to see the show.
“It is a great opportunity to support your community and see something new. Us kids have put a lot of effort and dedication into this musical,” explained O’Connor ‘24.
The costumes and sets of this musical are truly “Supercalifagilisticexpialidosius” and you will be transported to 1920’s London for sure! Why go to Broadway when you can come support the arts right here in Bethel?
“ It’s really important for people to support the arts and come out to let these kids know that they are excited about what they are doing! And make the kids feel proud of what they have worked for,” explained costume designer, Mrs. Chris Heyel.
“Mary Poppins Jr.” is set to open November 15 at 7 p.m. with a running time of two hours. The show’s two final performances will be held on November 16 at 2 and 7 p.m.. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door!
